Itinerary
Arrive at Kigali International Airport and transfer by private 4x4 safari vehicle. Begin the study tour with a guided visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, offering critical insight into Rwanda’s history, reconciliation, and nation-building.
Continue with visits to local markets, museums, and cultural centers for an introduction to contemporary Rwandan life.
Depart for Southern Rwanda on a scenic 5–6-hour drive. En route, stop at the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, an important site for understanding Rwanda’s pre-colonial monarchy and cultural traditions.
Arrive at Nyungwe National Park and check into your lodge surrounded by rainforest biodiversity.
Participate in an early morning chimpanzee tracking experience, guided by park rangers who explain primate behaviour, habitat protection, and conservation challenges.
In the afternoon, experience the Nyungwe Canopy Walk, suspended approximately 70 meters above the forest floor, providing a unique ecological perspective of the rainforest ecosystem.
Travel to Lake Kivu, following sections of the Congo–Nile Divide. This scenic drive offers opportunities to study Rwanda’s geography and rural livelihoods.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Kivu and time for relaxation at the beaches of Gisenyi, discussing the role of sustainable tourism in lakeside communities.
Drive north to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where students engage with local communities to learn about community-led conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism initiatives.
Take part in gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, one of the most significant conservation success stories in the world. Guided by conservation experts, participants gain insights into primate protection, eco-tourism economics, and biodiversity management.
Optional afternoon hike to the Dian Fossey Tomb, focusing on the history of gorilla conservation and scientific research in the region.
Explore the Musanze Caves, learning about Rwanda’s volcanic geology and historical use of the caves.
Later, return to Kigali for final reflections and onward departures.
