A Kampala City Tour offers a meaningful journey into Uganda’s rich religious and cultural history with a visit to the Namugongo Basilica, located about 11 km from Kampala. This sacred site is dedicated to the 22 Uganda Martyrs, Christian congregants who were executed by Kabaka Mwanga during the Buganda Kingdom era for their faith.

The martyrs’ journey began at Munyonyo, the royal palace, on May 26th, 1886, and continued to Namugongo, where some were killed along the way, and others were burned alive on June 3rd, 1886. Their unwavering faith led to beatification by Pope Benedict XV in 1920 and canonization by Pope Paul VI in 1964. Today, the Uganda Martyrs are the largest group of saints canonized by the Catholic Church and the only African saints with a basilica dedicated in their honor.

Every 3rd of June, pilgrims from across Africa and the world gather here to celebrate the martyrs’ legacy, making it a profound experience for visitors seeking spiritual reflection.

This Kampala City Tour includes transportation from your hotel in Kampala and costs USD 60 per person, offering a convenient and enlightening visit to one of Uganda’s most iconic historical and religious sites.
